Completely depends on what's in your area, and what you want to do. I haven't been more than 30 miles from my house in months and make good money. But I'm also bored and still don't feel like I see my family as much as when I was out a few nights a week. I'm also in a niche of trucking

We do mostly local and some short regional. Having a good customer base and having the right contacts is essential. That can take a while to develop.
First, figure out what kind of trucking you want to or can do.
For a one truck outfit, look for a manufacturer or hook on with a local company that's already established.
Local can be a tough business to get started in. In a rural area everybody knows everybody else and they tend to put the freeze on outsiderszmster2033 and Coffey Thank this. -

I do local. Mostly dedicated in the “Infrastructure” industry. I do 100 mile radius but will go out further depending if they pay the rate I need. I work to live and go home every night. I personally enjoy my home life, others my differ and they enjoy the OTR life.

A lot of variables
when I lived in Atlanta I did power only local regional , back to the home terminal almost every night .
Made good money .
when we lived in south Mississippi, had to run refrigerated power only fruit deliveries from biloxi to Chicago and West Virginia,
Usually out for two or three days at a time .
Always came back to Biloxi to grab another preloaded trailer of fruit from Central America .
Almost sold my tractor and bought a dump truck
At the time , dumptrucking was the big thing in south miss .
You just follow the money .Diesel Dave Thanks this.
