steer tire replacements

There is a date code stamped into the sidewall of every tire.

 

Shocks should be changed every 100k miles or sooner if they are leaking oil or seized.

The shocks are what keeps your tires planted on the ground over bumps and rough roads.

Bad shocks will cause your tires to start having flat spots in the tread from the tires floating and then hitting the pavement, like when a airplane is landing.

 

I would check king pins and spring bushings also while you’re at it

I have ran Michelin for the entire truck and trailer
I just replaced my steers at 185k and they were still good but I usually like to pull them before 200k just because that’s the only thing between you and the ditch. Maybe over cautious on that??

You can’t see them in this pic but I pulled 3 trailer tires and the steers are almost exactly the same wear at 185k
Will eventually sell or put them on the trailer again

 

I run Michelin tires all around truck and trailer. Steers get changed yearly. You can rotate them to the trailer or just trade them in. Not worth risking a blowout just to save a little bit of money.

 

If you have your own numbers, take a look at Michelin advantage program. It’s very nice. The prices may surprise you.

Very well worth the money. I'd say roughly a 15-20% savings.

 

If you don't know the mileage I would replace those, at least soon. You can get the date code as Joey said and check the age but those are looking a bit rougher than I would like.

I'm a Michelin only guy after running some other steers. Never tried Yokos.
