VW put $3.7billion in a suitcase and threw it at Navistar last fall. I’m not sure but that deal should be closed now. There’s another partner but VW holds the majority through their Traton subsidiary.

 

Volkswagen, which also owns several other heavy duty truck manufacturers in Europe like MAN now has a majority stake in Navistar.
There is little chance that any of the European manufacturers, all in bed with US manufacturers are going to start selling cabovers here.
KW owns DAF in the Netherlands, Freightliner is owned by Daimler, Volvo owns Mack, and now Navistar and Volkswagen are married.
All make cabovers for every market in the world, EXCEPT for North America.

 

Hard pass .. I'd eat a box full of broken light bulbs before I drive.. that..... that's just a glorified AMC Pacer with a 5th wheel

Mack actually still makes cabovers for the US but they’re made for garbage truck use. Peterbilt also makes some but they’re for smaller box truck applications.

This has been discussed elsewhere on the forums (and @Studebaker Hawk can back this up) but the closest thing to a modern cabover you can get in the US is a Argosy. But the ones that were sold here are only available in glider kit form(if production hasn’t been discontinued already). The complete trucks are/were exported to right hand drive markets (Australia,New Zealand,South Africa) where they still have vehicle length restrictions in effect. A majority of them have been fitted for heavy haul/oversize work and have high horsepower applications(560 hp on average depending on the engine chosen).Most of them use the same Airliner suspension found on Cascadias sold here in the States. In addition they also use DEF(called AdBlue in other markets).

 

People used to drive Road Commodes. Those guys would probably be happy to buy one of those spaceships. They’re used to stigma already.
