Want to really solve all of this?

return back to the ICC type regulations (pre-deregulation) and force the carriers to have more qualifications to enter, means testing and fixed rates to exist.

Eliminate the crap that allows marginal carriers to even exist.

This will eliminate the abuse with carriers using 1099 labor.

when this happens, the customers have little choice to deal with other carriers to leverage their threats. when they know they will have to pay specific line items and know that a truck waiting will cost them because of the regulations, these issues may be solved.

don’t mess with hours of service, don’t mess with a minimal pay or lease purchase crap yet, just go back to published rates and most crap may stop.

BTW, , everyone saying this was well written, well researched, all his talking points and information came from OOIDA, ATA and a couple other groups, his people worked with these groups, and the interviews weren't the usual BS we get from the mainstream.

Agreed, we charge and I get detention pay, for us, unless the gov't were to set a "rate not to exceed", it might not impact us

Every system produces uneven and inefficient results. There is no system that doesn't. The people that want the govt to fix everything ignore the last 100 years, and every experiment, and the result of every one of those experiments. Most of the unfairness in our system is CAUSED by previous govt "fixes" and uneven, unfair enforcement that comes from various players getting the govt to protect them from normal consequences. The govt cannot repeal gravity, friction, or seeking economic advantage. The do-gooders produce problems they simply ignore because many do-gooders are not interested in solving the problem they talk about but earn self-worth by "fixing" problems for people that the do-gooders think cannot act properly on their own behalf. Every govt solution makes hardship for someone and benefits someone else. Every beneficiary thinks his benefit is more important for the world than the "minor" hardship imposed on others. I have zero faith or reason to believe the govt CAN or will fix a very big problem of wasted hours by customers. I've seen the industry work before the 14 hours clock and with paper logs and the lesser amount of parking and I've seen the industry with all of those "fixes". The odds are better the govt doing nothing will produce better results than the govt "fixing" a problem.

The ATA and the Teamsters ARE NOT the only groups with interests in trucking. They ARE the biggest lobbying groups about trucking in DC. DC cannot listen to everyone. They listen to the groups with the biggest "voice". If you were selling your house you would not survey every neighbor and every potential buyer. You would pay attention to the people bringing offers to your real estate agent. Every industry has a Trade Association. the ATA is trucking's trade association. Busy people, reporters and govt officials, use the ATA as a short-cut to know/understand what the industry wants.

Reporters and others don't HAVE to be the "ignorant" dunces they so often are. The reporters and others decide to give unfair coverage either because the reporters/editors/activists think they know someone else's situation better than they do, or because they don't think the views of others are worth reporting, or those with an opposing view are unworthy of being heard.

I've learned for EVERY situation and EVERY issue there are people who's job depends on them knowing that issue. Nobody has the time to hear every point from every player, and none of us, especially me, are smart enough to reach the perfect solution even if we had heard every point from every person. IMO, someone has already collected the data needed. The most important voices for and against any plan make their voices heard, and analysts for and against the policy have their criticism to make. You can invent the wheel, make the wheel, sell the wheel, or you can read what the wheel makers say and do. I'm too lazy and not smart enough to do much more than learn from other people's experience. The experts can explain the best policy and it will make sense AND it won't require magic or a once-in-human-history exception to human behavior.

I would put Costco in charge of everything. I've never seen a trucking company, and airline, or NASA as competent doing their job as Costco is at doing their job.
