I can pretty well promise the OP nobody would sleep with their windows down parked next to me and especially considering the fact that if I have to park at a big truck stop I will pull in to a parking spot so no re.tard rips my hood off.

pete781693 and Coffey Thank this. -
A clanky hood idling without the fan kicking on and off is the most sweetest sound one can hear. Kinda like a sweet honey waking you up, whispering your name, holding a tray of breakfast in bed.
A prime truck with some lawnmower APU… ugh more like a millennial wearing a face diaper asking you not to idle.Brettj3876, pete781693, Last Call and 1 other person Thank this. -
Years ago I was in Idaho Falls at the Flying J and it was August and well over 100. I was driving for a New Canadian who had 15 trucks and I was the only driver not New to Canada. I got stuck there the weekend waiting to Load Monday morning and I was Idling with the AC going. He called me seeing it running quite concerned telling me no other driver runs the engine, the just put the windows down. I very politely told him I’m not out here camping and sitting here with the AC off is not happening. After a long discussion I mentioned to him that I’d gladly come back and camp with him in the yard for a weekend and see when he taps out and he just dropped it. I’m not suffering for someone who’s sitting in an office with the AC or heat regulated and able to be comfortable.

I understand the guys question, but also understand the answers. On occasion I find it quizzical that trucks are idling. But, to each his own. Only reason I'd prefer they didn't idle is because it causes me to have to roll up my windows to keep out the noise. Then, I end up having to idle too because of the heat that gets trapped. It is what it is. Might as well argue with the wind about being to windy, same futility.
Only time someone else idling really bothered me was when an old cranky long nose parked beside me and he was God awful loud. Fortunately, it was still early enough I was able to move to a different spot.
I drive a reefer, so when I look for a place to park, I try to park with other reefers, even if it is farther away from the truck stop and I try to avoid parking next to a long nose. However, sometimes, often, parking options are limited and I have to park where there's a spot and hope for the best.tscottme Thanks this. -
As much as fuel is these days, I'd think they'd want to save as much as possible.

If you're not shutting it off for at least a couple hours you ain't gonna save enough money to buy a candy bar.flood Thanks this.

How do you know if they have a pet?Last Call Thanks this.

Yes you will find, is if they were footing the fuel bill they'd be much more economical on the gas. Personally regardless of who is paying the bill I hate waste, when I worked out near the coal mines it would bother me to see just how much fuel some of the dump drivers wasted when refueling. But see they were not the ones footing the bill, so yeah if I don't need to run my truck I will switch it off. When the weather was right yes I could sleep quite well without the air - con or a heater running, however most of the time I'd have to stop in Mesquite NV or Las Vegas for a break in summer it was so hot around 110 f in the shade and who knows how hot in the truck cab without the air - con running it was impossible to sleep, winter time however different story, same with Phoenix AZ night time yes could sleep without air - con, no chance at all during the day time. Places like Portland Or, and Seattle WA with milder temps it was much easier to switch everything off.
