I moved rigs a bit when I first went out west. The older rigs were monsters. Most that I moved were built in the late ‘60’s early ‘70’s. Big, crude and heavy. D399 Cats or 16V149’s were pretty common deck engines. The deck engine skid would be 18-20 ton and Ive seen draw-works as big as 45 ton. Moving one was a nightmare of Tool and Truck Pushes screaming for days.

The funny thing is; the sheep goes way back to a joke in high-school. Had a friend with a convertible he was pretty proud of. Used to get to school early to park in the front by the door. So you pretty much had to go past his car to get in. So a few of us would show up just after him and belt a sheep into the passenger seat. So everyone had to walk by it. It really never got old because there were enough of us involved to keep it going.....and it made him angry. Good times.

On a serious note, I carry a ton of stuff that I "need" or I wouldn't carry it. However, if I had to really narrow it down, the one item I wouldn't leave without is a couple of spare water separator spin-ons. It's cheap and easy, but will leave you on the side of the road.

When the first of the stud-pilot Budd’s showed up the wheel wrench’s, bars and jack landed on the ground. I did my share of beating tires apart on the roadside. Or worse, out in the bush. I’m old, I call a tire guy now.
