I did not know where to post this. Walmart has just raised their wages. Average new driver now makes from $95,000 to 110,000. I wonder if this will have a positive effect on wages for company divers. Private fleets always pay decent bu this beyond decent. I have spoken to 4 different Wal mart drivers. None had anything really bad to say about the job. Nice uniforms. You get paid for everything: pre trip, fueling, drop and hook, etc. You NEVER touch the goods. Never have to worry about finding a parking spot! I understand that they are crazy about safety and do not put up with any nonsense. For some drivers this could be a dream job. You even get a discount on purchases.

I doubt it will effect pay at other companies. Good drivers that want to work for Walmart already do. This is just Walmart lowering their standards again. Because people dont wanna work for them.
I worked at a Walmart before getting my cdl. From what ive read they wanna take DC/store employees. And train them to drive, thats fine but they can't find people to work in the DC's. They were often forcing overtime just to run the places.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016 and Lonesome Thank this. -
I don't know if I necessarily agree with the fact that Walmart is lowering standards to attract drivers. You have to pluck workers from other job sectors to bolster yours. Besides, if a new driver can command 95k, I'd say they lowered their standards appropriately.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I have zero interest in slip seating into a truck every week and I like being off on Sundays.

I worked for a company that paid all that. I missed out on some pay before another driver told me I had to log it to get paid for it.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016 and bryan21384 Thank this. -
Working for Walmart is not for everyone. Those drivers with an attitude w would not last long. If you are very independent the job is not for you. If you constantly cry and complain and fight with dispatch the job is not for you. But obviously someone must like the job. They added about 4500 last few years. personally I would not be happy at WM. But many would love the pay. Trucks are super maintained and clean. 6 figures is hard to find anywhere else.
Another Canadian driver, Atlanta trucker, silverspur and 3 others Thank this. -
It's probably not a bad gig, overall....but slip-seating does suck.

I talked to them a few years ago, but the slip seating killed it for me.
