I know a guy that bobtails home everyday on PC. Was told that is fine. But since he is already dispatched on a load when he returns to the terminal, they won't let him use PC. Has to be logged in driving.

I believe the thinking is, since he's dispatched he's moving at the direction of the motor carrier and thus working. Don't think I really agree with it, but I don't write the rules.

Before the MAP21 legislation put us in AG exempt mode, our main driver would always PC from the farm home and back, 60 miles both ways. Many inspections, never an issue.

Oxbow, ZVar and prostartom Thank this.

Insane. The rule makers couldn’t even figure out how to turn on the headlights on any given rig. Truckers, regardless of ones who cheat logs, are more than likely more skilled drivers than the average 4 wheeler. 4 wheelers and law makers alike sleep however they want, consume likely whatever intoxicating substances at whatever time they want and pose FAR greater risk in any given circumstance on the road. A driver can’t even move their rig to a different parking spot within the same lot without logging something??? But a high ranking official will harm children, commit insider trading, and take bribes in the lobby?? Without hardly a question. Disgusting. Burn it all down.

    Hi Dave,
Long time no talk.. HUBS is having a similar issue, where tonight (after going to work about noon to get to a pick up by the appointment time, then having to sit THERE 4 hrs.. He is now driving 5 hrs to the receiver, will arrive about nine to a Target DC and at least SEE if he can get IN early before he runs out of hrs.

He told his DM that the time frame on this load (appointment to deliver is actually 0430) wasn't going to work.. asked HIM to get him bumped up for the appointment.. After non response cricket noises from the DM all day, he comes back with ..' Oh you can just go to the truck stop near by and PC back over there to the receiver at your appointment time'...
I'm thinking that's completely NOT the intent or spirit of that guidance OR of the 10 hr thing. What say you?

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

To be perfectly honest that's the way the industry has worked for decades.

Perhaps, but usually they were a little more sly about it. (of course, when I was driving with him, it didn't come up as much because 'teams')..
