First think I did with this new job, was a full pretrip. If you do not do one, your almost guaranteed not to get hired.. So companies do not care, but you will never know util they say you failed for not doing one.

The depth of the pre-trip usually depends on who is observing you doing it. When I did mine they pretty much just wanted to make sure you know what to look for that could go wrong, usually they wont have you actually test the part, such as checking u-joint play.
pinballwizard Thanks this. -
thanks fella's, Think I'm ready to go take the boss man for a ride now.

Just start doing everything like you are supposed to, if they don't care they will tell you to stop. On the other hand if you don't do a few things they might just give up on you there and not tell you.

The three axles shouldn't effect much. If I leave my third axle down on the tanker the only thing I notice is a bit of drag on hard turns. Now if I leave it down when I am empty, that would be not fun but tankers are different.

We'll guy's I went and had my first road test. it was easy driving, volvo daycab, 28ft pup trailer, 10 speed. I missed a gear or two and scratched some gears, but I was so nervous I must've sweated a gallon of water. I have'nt heard anything back from them yet (they're the scrap company, I thought they wanted a rolloff driver, they needed someone to haul crushed cars in curtainside trailer). The guy said he would call me either way. I figure the only chance I have is that it's a low paying job (10$/hr) and no experienced drivers would take it.

how did the pre trip go before your road test?
-
He told me he didn't want me to do one. There were 15 men taking roadtest's, he said he and the first guy pre-tripped the truck and he just does'nt have the time to have everyone do it, he did ask me if I knew how to do a proper pre-trip though.

First thing you do is pop the hood and check fluids and belts and do your visuals. If they dont want to messing with it, they'll say so. NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY, do a walk around. Ive had them say I dont have to, but I do it for ME. As for the three axle, the difference is if it's loaded or not. If unloaded, it should turn just fine. If loaded, you kinda gotta take er a little wide. You will feel what it wants. Dont sweat the roll off truck. Thats one of those things you learn for yourself. Roll off's are easy until you start doin roll off tractor trailers.
