Having an oil leak is not listed as an item on the annual vehicle inspection report. Is an oil leak a DOT failure? Does it vary by state?

It would really depend on the leak and where it is to be honest. Most are going to ignore small seeps and leaks. But if your fender is coated in oil....well good luck

Wyoming wrote me up for what looked like oil weeping from the tail shaft of my 18spd transmission.
What it actually was, was years of grease from the u-joint getting slung onto the transmission.
Never, ever had to add oil to the transmission, always full as could be.Another Canadian driver and bzinger Thank this. -
You betcha' and it's nothing new. More than once I had to tilt the hood on the Ill. Tollway, as some trooper did a walk around. I think seepage is okay, puddles, not so much.

running a leaf blower 15 minutes is more polluting than driving a Camry 2000 miles .Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Who cares. Isn’t anybody else tired of this #### yet. If I’m using the wrong leaf blower give me a ticket. I’m just to tired to care.

My 2nd visit to Savannah [Pt. Wentworth] I dead lined the worst oil leak ever on an ancient freightliner. They only had a few guys who pulled out loads and returned empties so he didn't go far.
Besides the 'patina' of a huge, long standing, oil leak; the front axle beam running under the engine had a 5 inch high build up of yard dirt/oil stuck together looking like a tiny mountain ridge running across the whole axle.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
