There's an expediting newsboard on the net too full of alot of information too. I'd look there and see where teams just like you guys started out driving for a O/O then brought there own truck. They seem to be doing ok.

I definetly second the motion of avoiding Werner. On my website I have a good/bad trainer page --- more than 90% of the bad trainer entries came from her experience with Werner as a student.

What are the specifics as to why your wife doesn't want to train separately? The problem with man being with a woman alone in a truck? After my wife's experience at Werner she absolutely totally and completely will not get on ANY truck with ANY woman.

Being a team has it's advantage primarily when both people feed the same account AKA H/W team. We tried several times to make it so that we would drive at specific times of the day - forget it. Running continuously - forget it - you will sit to the point where sleep schedules get messed up especially with expediting.

Even with companies like covenant that say they will train you together, it depends a great deal on what the trainer will allow. Believe only 10% of what the recruiter tells you - they get paid for the number of people that show up at orientation.

Before you make final plans call several of the expediting companies and talk to the recruiter and find out what their policies are regarding spouse training.

Make sure you and your wife have discussed and discussed and discussed what your plans and backup plans and backup of backup plans should things go not the way you planned. For instance, what if one of you either can't or is delayed in getting your CDL. What about if both of you get prehires but then one of you gets sent home for some reason by the company? What if one of you decides that life on the road is not for you?

After my wife joined me on the road, I had to re-open my eyes to some things that go on in truck stops.

So far we have 1.5 years of h/w teaming. One of those being at Swift, the remainder has been with Panther.

    Might check out Con-way Truckload.
They are looking to expand with their teams.
I don't know for a fact, but last I heard they were still doing a training deal with teams

Stace and I drove for Conway for about a year and a half as a 'significant other' team. Best company job we ever had. Granted, this was back before they bought CFI so I suppose a lot might have changed since our experience.

Actually things have changed probably for the better.
There is more focus and emphasis on teams, and team freight. Have 2 Planners that plan teams only, one dedicated planner and one general team planner.
