You are correct Rick. Companies operate businesses to make a profit, not to provide a community service.
If I owned a restaurant, I definitely wouldn't provide truck parking.
A tractor trailer takes up the space of at least a dozen cars. And in most cases each car will have two customers, if not an entire family.
And they will eat their meal, pay their bill and be gone in less than an hour.
Unlike many truckers who may occupy that realestate for hours, if not all day, some of them not even spending a dime in the establishment.
Nothing personal against the truckers. Just business. -
The proper course of action is ask for permission. I was in Florida last year and asked a manager at Walmart if I could park my truck on their property for 5 to 7 days. Of course being clean and polite.

The wal-mart in iowa city iowa has no truck parking signs there, guess they dont want truck drivers shopping there.
-
I saw that too. If you want somewhere to park there are two empty lots by the IHOP there. They only use them when there is a football game in town there. I parked in one of them last week.

WE actually stopped there and parked out back then went in and got groceries, but the people inside heard about the no truck parking from the wife then when we got home she sent wal-mart a nasty email about it, she never heard anything back. I would rather get deli food at wal-mart then the truck stops, only thing is we got chicken at the deli in wal-mart in logan utah and the cooked chicken from the deli was already bad before they cooked it, it tasted and smelled like vinegar, they do that in the meat dept when meat is outdated, soak it in vinegar and repackage it, thats gross to no end.

The one in Sidney has tons of truck parking, Wal-Mart lots and in the two dirt lots in front of the store. FWIW, Sidney is one of the most truck friendly small towns around, I think the amount of business truckers give Cabela's has something to do with it. -
You know, we are our own worst enemies when it comes to Wal-Marts. The one in Commerce City, Co. used to allow trucks, then they banned them, now they allow them again. But, there is a very strict no-idle rule. Couple of days ago I stopped in there to grab a bite from one of the adjoining resturants. It was a gorgeous day, temps in the mid-40's, no reason at all to idle. Sure enough, there were two road trucks sitting there idling away. I watched the drivers get out of the trucks and walk towards the store. Security told them to shut their trucks off, one guy refused and was told to leave, the other one did shut his off. But it's also like I posted about what I saw at another store as well. If we abuse it, we lose it.

Iam in The Denver area right now, been here a few days getting the truck worked on. I had a friend take me over to the Wal-Mart there in Commerce City, They even have marked parking for trucks, it says "semi truck only" right on the ground. Kinda nice to see that.

Wow thats funny, so you think you have a right to park in a walmart parking lot you should be so happy that some let you. it is a busness not a truck stop. It is your job as a driver to plan your trip according. sorry to say this driver but your wrong. Next time you think you should be able to park think about this i feel i have the right to park my rig on your front lawn. you do the math.
Little John Thanks this.
