From what I’ve read, it seems that any driver wanting to move to Indiana would be required to pass a general knowledge exam in order to transfer their CDL. Is this pretty much the same exam you’d take in order to get your commercial learners permit? Also, would the exam be identical regardless of which state it takes place in, or would it be best to study a guidebook from a DMV in Indiana vs. my home state (Georgia)?
Sorry, I know these “transfer my CDL to such&such state” threads get old, but I just wanted to ask drivers who have actually done it before.
Transferring CDL to Indiana; general knowledge exam?

Did you call Indiana to see if they actually require retaking a test?
I don’t think they do.
EDIT, SORRY I was corrected by my manager in Indiana. It seems you have to pass the general knowledge test which is really easy. He said it is just a money grab.Flat Earth Trucker and Zonno Thank this. -
They do. Just the written stuff no driving tests. General knowledge and whatever other endorsements you need. Go get the study book first before wasting your time at the BMV so you pass the first time. It's probably even published online at the BMV website. If you need hazmat you'll have to get fingerprinted again and add it after the transfer is done. Every state makes you do the hazmat over again.

Ok thanks. I just Google search it and that’s what comes up.

If I moved to Indiana, what if I were to take the written test and fail it? Will they hand me my current CDL and allow me to try again the following day?Or would I be forced to accept a non-commercial license? I’ve tried looking this up, but can’t find info. I know when testing for a CLP, you can retake the test 1 day after failing the first time, a week after the second fail, and after 30 days each fail afterwards. I’m unsure how it is with a current CDL holder who is simply transferring to another state.

Indiana, Utah, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and THE COMMUNIST STATE are all reciprocal of each other.
Get your CDL in one of those, your good to transfer anywhere.
Get your CDL someplace else and move to one of those, you must take written test, and hazmat if you have one.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
