Is 25% of gross ok for reefer pay?

    It could go either way. It all depends on how transparent and honest your boss is. He could get a better rate than he's telling you. Now let's assume he's transparent. Then my opinion is, sometimes it can be really good, and others it could be bad. I'm not a fan of the 1099 thing, as I think it's for drivers that don't have good records and need to clean up some. It all depends on the initial rate and to some degree how long you'll be tied to a particular load. If your hauling a load cross country with a rate of 6k(example), 1500 is your cut, and that's probably all you'll make that week because you'll under that load at least 5 days. Not too far off from a reputable W-2 company. You may even be worse off once you take out the taxes.

    Ask yourself this what would you expect to earn working between 55 - 66 hours per week on a hourly rate? Next question how does my income look based on 25 % of gross compared to on an hourly rate? Is it better or worse? If better then yeah the 25 % gross would be great, if worse, then no you'd be better off on the cents per mile rate or hourly rate.

    It is the thing , just have to be careful ...lot of people making over 3k per week on 1099 and with proper management you can move forward much faster than working for w2 ...to each their own

    I get 25% of the load and I drive a reffer.
    There in no way I'd do this as a 1099. Remember YOU pay the employer tax and YOU pay for workers compensation insurance. And if anything bad happens they come after YOU not just the company. You get all the liability of being a company owner but with less pay than a w2 employee.
    1099 can work but not in this case

    Here is an example.
    I'm at Walmart in Corinne UT. I picked up in Lamoore CA.
    $2700 rate con so I get $675. Not great but not bad. But you still need to pay self employers tax of what Google says is 15.9%.
    So you would get $567.67 before you have your regular income taxes to pay.
    Now if you are making a lot more than regular reffer makes than go for it.

    Problem with 1099 is u have 0 benefits and now have to pay Extra self employment tax... you will most likely be worse off than a w2 employee and the company don't have to pay you any benefits or payroll tax on their end. They save a lot of money and you get screwed but if it's the only opportunity you have, you gotta work with what ya got

    And how many 1099 drivers don't pay any taxes (Income or SSA) and don't get Workmans comp policy either? They roll the dice that they can get away with it.

    Well thanks for the advice all I took another job instead still 1099 still reefer. But this one is at 30% and much nicer/newer trucks. Kw and Pete’s
