That is why every 400k I changed carrier bearing ( center support bearing) . I know I will be corrected. good or bad. Proactive maintenance. That could of been a lot worse for sure

For our company, I think enough drive shafts get damaged that the carrier bearing never needs actual replacement. The whole shaft gets replaced or repaired and a new bearing is put on, along with new u-joints and yokes.

Meritor Freedom line? Put a zerk in it and grease it. Couple pumps every service. I have found the "Lubed for Life" driveline frozen up at 500k. Slip shaft so tight I had to cut ujoint to remove driveshaft. I've seen them tie up and damage carrier bearing, and I've seen them knock front diff bearing out.

Non Greaseable parts are a Joke.

    That u-joint looks pretty dry.

I don’t see a grease fitting anywhere either. Must be a total sealed u-joint?

It does have the drilled holes for grease

It's empty! And there's no slung grease on anything under there. Makes me wonder if it's ever been greased since it's been on the truck.

The zerk faces away from the yoke nut. Otherwise you can't get a gun on it. So if it has one, it's on the other side in the first pic.

    Dave_in_AZ and Shawn2130 Thank this.

Pretty fine lines along the fracture in the one picture. Usually a shock load you see a very rough and jagged break.
