Spread Axle or Tandem

If he's running off a load board, there's quite a few 53' loads there that'll only load on a 53, and they pay a bit extra usually. I'm trying to find a good reason not to buy one, but I can't.

 

Do you see many listing on the boards requesting a team for flatbed?

Seems to be few and far between from what I see on ITS...

I have a 53 flat. Run open most of the time and have had zero issues open minus California

 

Not many for teams, usually military stuff. The good thing though, for where and what I usually run, it's FCFS. Other markets may be dominated by appointments.

 

I pulled 53 for a year and never used it except for 60 foot loads which easily fit on 48s.

There are 11 or 13 states that require closed axles. Can't remember which number exactly. California being the lone western state. Tennessee being the pita state on the east side. The rest are north and northeast.

I think Florida had something mentioned a time or two on this forum also. I think. Only time I was in that state was a tanker gig.

like i said.. unless there's a need that can actually be used consistently. It's wasted space. in the one year I pulled a 53. I hauled 3 loads of 60 ft rebar. And the only loads I hauled heavy. Were west coast loads. That was my experience.
But everyone has it differently.

Me personally just didn't see or have the need for an extra 5 feet. 48 did me just fine for 6 of the 7 years I pulled flat.

Florida requires a $20 yearly permit

I run all States and have never had any issues in Tennessee or any other running open. Not sure what rules they have as this is a first I’ve heard of it but in 10 years pulling a flat I’ve never had any problems other than having to close up when I run California
