Channel 7, WJLA TV (ABC) in Washington, DC is reporting today, 1-21-2010; that the Virginia state government rest stops that were closed are being re opened per order of Gov. McDonnell.

I thought that the plumbing, etc. was torn out of them and the shells of the buildings were being mothballed or some buildings were actually being torn down. Which would be a shame because I have seen some very nice rest stops in Virginia. Other states may want to have a clue.

I'll believe it when I see it. Sure would be nice. After all, they said when they closed them that they would expand the truck parking at the ones they were leaving open and we all know that hasn't happened.

Even if in the short term they take down the barriers and put in portable toilets until they get the buildings back up to standard would be a benefit.

One place I read that they would not all be completely reopened until May, but at least they are headed in the right direction.

i mean, how much money does it really cost to keep a rest area open---if only portable toilets are used?

Yes, before they started closing the rest areas they had finally eased up on running trucks out of there after two hours, but they will still run you off and ticket you if you are illegally parked at the rest areas on the entrance/exit ramps where no parking signs are posted.

Don't park on ramps. You can be issued a ticket that carries points on your license. What they get you for, is "disobeying highway signs" and this carries a fine and points.

Va. is one of the easiest state to run thru, if you act like you have some sense. But, if not, the penalties in Va. are not cheap.
