My accounting went out the window last year - bad hard drive, not training, doing a lot of short runs, and general laziness, so I don't have hard numbers to hand. Rough math I did 75 cpm to the hub and about 120k, worked an average of 5 day weeks. Total gross was $89k, but that's misleading as I "sold back" my vacation because there was no place to go, $85,000 is a more realistic number - only 3 students the whole year, and those were in December.

The other caveat I'll mention is I understand my pay structure and the system - I know which loads pay better and how to structure my day so I'm more likely to get those loads. Over this last year I have been flabbergasted by how many tenured drivers don't understand the pay structure, let alone how to manipulate it to their advantage.

I'm also disturbed by how many drivers don't know how to say the words "you realize I'm not asking, right?" or "when I ask you to do something it's a polite way of telling you".

All that said, I will concede that your safety department is probably less inundated with pointless bs.

I was at the Gary OC one day and a bulk student walked up to me in the cafeteria asking for directions to a place in Burns Harbor, IN. I told the OSR and he just laughed shaking his head.

I mean...either you know where the place is or you don't. I know Burns Harbor is very close to the Gary OC, but that doesn't mean you can't get lost. Lol

LTL is a good place to be, for sure.

Schneider to LTL were the stepping stones that led me to where I'm at now. I'd never go back, but I'm eternally grateful.

Well, i leave for "Experienced Orientation" on Monday. We start on Tuesday because of the holiday. Im kind of nervous because I havent driven in 6 years but Schneider says my 2.5 years experience back then is enough. I wonder if they just expect me to remember everything during the 4 day orientation or are they gonna help me through it. I am looking forward to orientation and have a good attitude going in. I guess its just that I really want this job and all to go well. We will see.

You’ll be fine. I left trucking for a bit more than three years before calling around to get back in without having to go through retraining (I had about eight years experience). They told me if I could pass a road test I could go in as an experienced driver. I pulled a 98 on the road test. The rest was cake.
    Good luck!
