Open deck drivers are real truckers.
I used to throw rags in my youth. The older you get the smarter you get.
Whiners cry about tarping a square load 8 wide 4 tall and 40 long. That is not tarping , try 13’ tall, 13’ wide 40’ long , or a 747 motor at JFK with no help.
step decks are to tall to climb on, the older you get the lower your trailer gets.
Had to turn down $5800 going 320 miles so I can babysit the grandkids. There are things more important than trucking.
Should The OM and I get a Stepdeck??

If we can do it, so can you guys.
Speed_Drums, NYCgorilla, MACK E-6 and 17 others Thank this. -
Running a step would be good exercise for the OM. She would be down to a svelte figure in no time.
Speed_Drums, BennysPennys, blairandgretchen and 3 others Thank this. -
I think it's a good idea to have all kinds of trailers in this day and age, heck, I'd even consider a wet kit and an old dump wagon can sit in the weeds too. Like I said on the other post, the only thing I see here in central Colorado, is ALL flatbed. No shortage of cash here, and building is strong. Someone has enough faith in this society, to build a MEGA archery/hunting store( what else?) 2 towns over, big as a stadium, and all the beams and building crap came in on flatbed. Too bad nothing going out, tho. THAT'S going to be your biggest problem, reloading in Bumshmuck, Co. with a flatbed.

Usually pipe out of CO, or rail.Speed_Drums, BennysPennys, 201 and 2 others Thank this.

Funny, I see pipe and beams COMING INTO Colorado on flatbeds. It's a "user" state and the only thing Colorado produces is burnouts,,,

,,,Colorado, along with many western states, is currently experiencing an extremely dry period( like worst ever) and water must be piped in from miles away for these crybabies mansions. Lot of pipe coming into Colorado,,

Well it has been 4 years now since I've hauled anything other than my butt, and they legalized the burnout weed since then so you might be right.
Still, I believe Evraz in Pueblo, still close enough to Denver to qualify, still has a plant there so they can't be just taking it in and not shipping it out..unless Evraz is closed too, now. I find several steel and pipe references via Google search, including a place that manufactures Rolloffs, a flatbed loadable product...Colorado Springs, I've hauled containers from for transfer to other bases, etc...in fact I still remember that one because while they were loading our guys they found a live round in one of the containers so the whole day got scrapped until they got it taken care of.
Not saying all the stuff will be well paying, but it very well might get you to where it is. One of the troublesome loads I had on the heavy stepdeck was one that involved rail to I believe it was AR from a place in CO...had to scale it 3 times to get it right, and in the end, they did it my way.
Dave_in_AZ and BennysPennys Thank this. -
Posted this on other threads but I’ve been told that a flat works better east of the Mississippi and steps the west
I pull a 53’ flat and run all over but it does seem to be true from loads I see
More heavy equipment out west??Speed_Drums, God prefers Diesels, CAXPT and 2 others Thank this. -
Freight sucks out west no matter what kind of open deck you run. The only way to make it worth it is to stay out here for a couple weeks or more or get paid very good Coming in. Eastbound loads going out on a deck pay crap. And there mostly all 48k loads..that's how it's been since I've been finding my own loads for a couple years now and running West of i15 and North of i80 80% of the time. I worked and found some direct freight that I did fairly good on for a while.Speed_Drums, beastr123, Siinman and 5 others Thank this.
