RSS for chassis??

    Good afternoon all - I have a strange question. We're just getting started in transportation and have purchased brand new tractors as well as 20/40 triaxle chassis to do port drayage in and out of POLA/LB. My question is regarding roll stability. We have a Houston, TX location that also has new units and I've been told by their manager that their chassis require RSS installed due to hauling heavy weight containers. I can't find ANYTHING here in CA to confirm or deny that we need the same. We're located within the overweight corridor so will be hauling up to 95,000# and I just want to make sure we're 100% compliant once we start operations. ANY assistance someone is SoCal can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    You'll probably have to contact the chassis manufacturer then, it's my understanding looking at our 3-axle chassis, RSS is standard, but there are different levels to it.

    BTW, even if permitted for 95,000, as I read the Caltrans info, you need a 4 axle tractor with a 3 axle chassis to run 95,000 lbs. Honestly, if you are running that heavy, drivers need to be taking it slow and gentle, at those weights, even packed to the gills, the potential for a roll over is pretty great.
