Do 40-50 hour weeks, hourly pay, and home nightly jobs exist?

Currently I work local/rural, 6:00 to (1:00-3:00), so 7-9 hours, but summers are usually 8-10 hours M-F. Weekends off, health & dental, OT after 8, 401k match.

The sad part is that I am looking at O/O OTR for a better gig with winters off.

    Am I dreaming?

I went from TMC Flatbed to bulk milk hauler (They require 5 years and 550k miles (mostly winter) and they hired me with 1 year of OTR exp)) and paid by the hour whether I'm moving or not. Did 66k gross my first year and 61k gross my 2nd year. For me, that's not worth the ice road trucking required during the winter, so I'm moving on...but at least you get paid while sitting out front waiting to back in and unload or sitting at a farm loading your tanker. Clock in and get paid until you clock out. No elogs. Ag exempt. If you're in the Iowa, Nebraska, SD area there are plenty of hourly milk outfits, but just a few dairies that have their own fleets.

Edit to answer OP Question: Yes, they do exist, but you have to find them. Since most drivers these days are seeking some level of normalcy, these jobs are taken and filled so there's no real reason to advertise them. My company offers 2 types of schedules: 10-hour shifts that are 7 days on (home daily) 3 days off, 7 days on (home daily) 4 days off (so you work 2 out of every 3 weekends))) or a 12-hour shift consisting of 5 days on (home daily) 2 days off, 2 days on (home daily) 5 days off. This equates to 6 months on 6 months off schedule and the schedule I'm on. I'm off every Mon and Tue and off every other Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue. I get $22/hr and OT after 40 hours and Double-time Sun/Holidays. It's not a bad gig at all and the company is great. I just can't take the whining of the boomers I work alongside and do not believe $22hr is worth ice road trucking on w/ 67k of smoothbore milk sloshing in the back. We have guys making close to 100k, but they work a LOT of days off OT...which I'm not interested in, but others are.

I don't think it's fiscally viable to be a part-time O/O unless you have the ability to pay cash (which I don't suggest if the finance % is low and have investments that can use higher earning interest investments to pay the lower finance % payment) for a truck...otherwise, when you are off during the winter, you're still making weekly/monthly truck payments, etc.

As for OTR, I remember passing a place while I was OTR that offered just that, and for the life of me and all of the time I've spent asking Jeeves, I can't find them again. They were a local/regional outfit that advertised no winter driving and 100% I would have sought them out if I could find them, as I have really no interest in winter driving if given the option.

    Absolutely they exist.
Though it may not be in the van world.
    I haul gas tankers.
The company I work for offers a part time position and 4 day position, as well as 5 day.
Obviously, the short schedule drivers don't make quite what the 5 day folks do, but it's still excellent money.
    And benefits.
    I'm home every night.
    2 days off.
Seriously considering the 4 day for a while with spring coming... Having a farm, spring brings piles of things that need doing that take time.

SEFL has went to bidding on scheduled start times for P&D drivers, Linehaul has remained the same.

I know first hand that SEFL has terminals where drivers with low seniority get stuck on a 9am start time and some are lucky to hit 40-45 hours a week. The kicker is go to the SEFL website and look at the career tab and you’ll see they are still actively trying to hire drivers. This time of year we should be slammed but it’s not the case. They obviously projected a big increase in freight volumes this year but it’s obviously not going to way they projected. If this is the busy season, when we do slow down during the normal slow season, things are going to be ugly for rotation.

Linehaul wild drivers are struggling to get miles too. I’ve been shut down at 2am away from the house and was told we were slow but yet SEFL just added 100+ new wild runs on.

Maybe for some, but not for me.

I keep pretty consistent daytime hours and seldom work more than 10-11 hours per day.
Averaging hours to run recaps makes for a less stressful work day.

Just because the regs say we can run long hours with not much break time does not mean I have to run that way.
I may have 14 hours for a duty shift, but I do not have to run that time out every day.
I may be mandated to take a 10 hour break, but that does not mean I can not take a longer break.

I am probably the last who should be replying as I am still trying to get my CDL but there are absolutely those type of jobs. Local jobs sometimes pay very well also. Coca-Cola has local delivery drivers, home each night. The only problem with those types of jobs is that you have to physically unload the product and take it into the stores and actually place it in the cooler or on a shelf. You will probably make many stops each shift and work in tight gas station and store parking lots. Hope this helps. And, if this was already mentioned, please forgive me as I did not read through the entire 8+pages of this thread.

Plenty of fuel hauling gigs offer 4 day workweeks… couple companies here pay a weekend warrior incentive.. only thing is it’s usually a Friday- mon/Tuesday gig buts it’s an extra 3-5$

Smells like some kind of scam. Hire a bunch of drivers then have to lay them off and now the company is eligible for some kind of Federal tax relief.

The PPP loan thing was a huge money grab. Billions of dollars worth of loans forgiven when a good deal of loan recipients probably shouldn't have even gotten the loan in the first place. Probably won't be the last time that kind of thing happens.
