If you make $.50 per mile, you will have to drive 0.3 miles per day to pay for your physical. C'mon people......how cheap can you possibly be! Plus, don't all of you Owner Operators make about 2 million dollars a year anyways? I overheard that at the lunch counter.:biggrin_2551::biggrin_25512:

In my driving career with one exception, I never paid for my physicals. That exception was when I was a contractor doing Vehicle Recovery (Repo). Even then I was using my family doc and when I needed a physical all I did was hand him the form to sign. It blows what's left of my mind to see this.

The nurse does the height, weigh, eye chart, sometimes the B.P. also. The Doc or N.P. does the heart check and crotch grab. Yeah $59 was a few years back, probably when fuel was dollar a gallon.

Some time ago I overheard three drivers talking about the DOT medical. The subject of the hernia (rupture) check came up and one of them referred to it as "getting rubber gloved." The other termed it as "getting your balls tickled." And now "crotch grab." Well, guys, it is on the exam form. If you have a female examiner it probably makes her day. She gets to check you down in front, and you get to turn your head and cough twice. I'm glad some of the exams we women have to take isn't on that form. By the way, I wonder how many MALE drivers have failed the physical because of a hernia?

I've had a lot of DOT physicals in the last 10 years. I would say that half of them did not do the hernia check. The reason being is that there was an agility test required that was built into the physical itself. It involved picked up about 40 pounds of weight in a milk crate and walking back and forth, setting the crate down and picking it up again, probably about 6 times. They also required that you lift 75 pounds and put it on a shelf above your shoulder level. The nurse told me that his pretty much weeds out people who have hernias! Not really sure if it's true or not, I guess I don't have a hernia. It's the hearing test that has me concerned at this point in life.

I just recalled getting my second DOT physical at one of those "store front clinics." I really didn't want to but I was a considerable way from home and the card was going to expire the next day. I went in did the paper work, took the eye test and gave a urine specimen. I was put in a room and within two minutes a woman came in. She briefly scanned my medical history. She then took my blood pressure, listened to my heart and lungs and both sides of my neck. I didn't have to remove any clothing. I got the two year card, paid the fee and was out of there in about twenty minutes. You know that doctor checked a lot of things on that form she didn't examine. I could take a physical like that one every day but I wouldn't feel good about it.

I did my last physical this January at the Petro in Wheeler Ridge. 20-30 minutes and if I remember it was $60. It was easier than scheduling an appointment with my Doctor when I’m home and then going there etc etc etc.
