I picked up this little compact radio a couple of years ago ( less than $50.00 after rebate) and never really used it, but sitting in Waco , thought I would give it a try, and much to my surprise, this little thing rocks. Has plenty of features like weather, NB, talkback, built in ANL, 7 different colors, however no RF gain or Mic gain, level on both seems to be set right. Stock carrier is 5 watts and pep is about 25 watts and receive is excellent and white noise is average. Was watching a video review and see that a IRF 1310 mosfet transistor is stock, which I'm assuming is a high power final, my only question is about the mic, it comes with a 4 pin electret mic, which actually sounds really good, but if I were to try a dynamic mic would it not sound good, or would it work fine ? Thanks in advance for any helpful replys.

Came across this on another site, these are not my words : Radios with Electret elements use voltage supplied to the mic wire from the radio to power element. Use of a Dynamic or after market power mic can possibly damage both mic and radio and sound quality may suffer.

Can you use the weather alert feature while using the cb at the same time?

That is correct. If you use an Electret Mic element on a radio designed for a Dynamic mic, the audio will be very weak. Its the commonly used 8 volts from the radio that gives a Electret mic element its gain or audio loudness.
Since a Dynamic mic element doesn't use 8 volts for it to work, I'm sure you can see it probably isn't a good idea to inject high DC volts into a mic not designed for it.

Normally no. A cb radio with weather feature turns off the CB TX/RX side when your listening to the weather channels in the 162 MHZ range. I don't think the President Andy would be any different. You may check out CB Radio Magazine on the web to see if they did a review on this radio.
