Okay so I've been broke down for about 2 weeks now. Should i he getting breakdown every week as regular pay. I have never broken down in the 6 years i have been driving. I told my boss the truck needed repairs. It was in the shop last month for 3 week for the same thing. And not almost 2 weeks for the same this as last time. And now he said he has to come up with x amount of dollars for repairs and wont pay break down intil im back on the road

What did you get for the last breakdown and when did you get it?

You get what you negotiate. As in all business negotiations you have to be prepared to walk away from the table.

    Luck in battle, hand.

Are you working for like a very small company with a very few amount of trucks? Because you might not get anything if you are. If it’s like a midsize company, they should clearly have their policy on breakdown pay and other accessory pay written out for you. The company I work for clearly states it’s policy on breakdown pay, getting them to actually pay it is another story though. Lol I’ve had three breakdowns and only got paid once. And trust me it was a federal case to get it.

Why didn’t they just give you another truck to drive? Why would you just sit for six weeks? Heck by then Id have got another job.

You are an employee? No work = unemployed. File for unemployment benefits.

Breakdown pay should be clearly explained upon time of hire. If they did not offer to put you in another truck while yours is down, is a red flag. The boss telling you how much it is going to cost to fix the truck, is a red flag! The boss using the phrase, "I have to come up with X amount of dollars to get the truck fixed" is a red flag! Have your exit strategy in place and ready to execute asap!

You can be driving for another company tomorrow if you wanted to.
Even if it's short term it's better than not working for who knows how long.

Always have breakdown pay in writing at the time of employment. Without that, don't drive their truck.

In trucking you should always have a plan B.
I am always looking for the next job.
