That’s exactly what happened when Ontario did it. Trucks in strings 2 miles long and 2 lanes wide 10’ from each other at 105kph have 401 ####ed to the point no one can use it, and it’s lethal. Winter is crazy, trucks leaving the road all tangled up 17 at a time. Every study I’m aware of done in N.America over the last 30 yrs found split speed limits to be dangerous. Ontario even ignored the fact they did away with split limits themselves because it was unsafe. Limiting the trucks is the same thing, but Ontario did it anyway because some politician saw votes in saving the public from those scary trucks.Sod Burner, Another Canadian driver and Oxbow Thank this.

Remember when the government dropped the speed limit nationwide to 55?
Does anyone see this happening again?baha, Another Canadian driver, Goodysnap and 1 other person Thank this. -
I thought about it. I don’t know if the public would buy into that these days, and they couldn’t possibly enforce it with the number of cars out there. Those same people will be all for limiting the trucks though, until they do it. I saw what happened up here and it’s not pretty.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

When I ran down there enforcement was pretty patchy on it by then. From the bridge through MI,IN and IL was an agony, but once I was west of Davenport I could be running 75 and I was in the way. Until you got to CA the only place I remember any kind of heavy speed enforcement in the west on I-80 was that little chunk of 2lane that was left from west of the salt lake through eastern NV. Lots of radar and NV DOT on that. But by the early ‘80’s a lot of places let us run if we stayed away from the cars. I’m glad I missed the early years of it.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
