So I trained about 2 months before getting my own truck but now (2nd load) I had to pre-cool the reefer to -10 (my trainer never really went over this). I thought 1.5 hours would be enough time, needless to say it wasn’t. Now I’m at the shipper waiting for it to cool (currently at 25F) hoping they don’t kick me out. Anyone have any idea how long it will take? It’s an olderish trailer with a few small air gaps. Outside temp is 75F

Sometimes a manual defrost will speed things up but i suspect your reefer is getting weak . If it won’t precool trailer at 75 it probably won’t keep up with demand of a frozen load.

When you do it, it usually cycles through everything including a defrost.
It ends with a report that can be Pass, Check or Fail.
I always do it and take a timestamped pic of that result.
The defrost will help with the deep cooling. All the time.
Defrost can be done manually too.tscottme Thanks this. -
My Reefer will go to -10 at 75 in about ten minutes. So, yes you have equipment issues.

I’ll be honest to say I have no idea what that means. My trainer taught me to set the temp and wait, that’s about it. Nonetheless the shipper is loading my now at 15F and my carrier doesn’t see any issues with the reefer

Have you checked refrigerant flow volume in the sight glass while the unit is running? Little ball should float and not be sunk at bottom of sight glass.
