    Hello team

So I have this broker which I use on a regular basis who has power only flatbed freight (I go to his customer, get a loaded flatbed and deliver to different jobsites) . Anyways, about three weeks ago he gives me a load, I give it to one of my drivers...my driver picks up the wrong trailer and brings it to the jobsite. The jobsite obviously refuses the load and so I send the driver back to get the correct trailer. Once we get the correct trailer and bring it back to the jobsite the load is refused as the crane which was set to unload us had already left for the day.

I talk to the broker, he asks me to keep the trailer in my yard for a couple days until they reschedule a different crane. The load is rescheduled for three days later, we take the trailer and deliver it no issues.

So yesterday the broker comes back to me and states the customer is charging him $15k as they had to bring a whole crew and get a different crane to unload the trailer. The broker tells me I'm responsible for it. I told him that didn't seem right and I would talk to my insurance, etc.

Question for you guys, am I responsible for these charges? I mean I know we didin't deliver the correct trailer at first and they did have to reschedule a different crane to go in and unload but I don't think I should be paying his customer $15k.

What do you think I should do? The rate confirmation states $100 for missed deliveries and "Additional late delivery charges assessed by the consignee may also apply".

By the way, the load paid $2k.

In this case id say its your fault and your going to need to cough up. You cost them a lot of money via a mistake on your end and cranes arent cheap even if they just sit there. The customer is renting the crane, the crew and the time for both. Additionally heblikely had to rejigger quite a few things to work around ya.

Sorry mate in this case its a you goofed thing. Id write up or at least warn the driver eat the cost and write the whole thing off as a learning experince.

Yes, you are responsible for this IMHO. Having said that, $15k is way too much money. I can see a crane company charging maybe $5k, but $15k is absurd.

Not as much as you think. We just had to hire one to fix one of our grain silos at our farm because it was unsafe to do any other way after the wind damage. $7,000 for 4 hours to support it while we replaced the supports that cracked in said wind storm.

Ill say of all the loads ive done the past year, Ive always had a crane appt or met a rigging crew to unload, id say roughly %80. Crane crews are expensive. And the further north you go In the country, the more expensive they seem to be.

Id ask to see an invoice or something before I agreed to pay that amount. But, ill also say yes, you are on the hook for the crane costs.

Near the top, but loading, unloading and securing are before that one
