I don’t want to be an A hole, but I’m glad. These guys need to stop loading lowboy freight on a step deck. Hope they take it to him.

Yes :biggrin_2559: That's why I also mentioned "older ladies and gents" as another possibility lol ;) I feel like I'm the youngest one on here haha (not complaining....love talking with and learning from the older folk) except Tibbitt.....he's younger not by much though.

I remember the yard guy at a previous job b####ing about trucks showing up with an 8'6 wide deck to load 8' wide equipment. Kid wanted them to specify 10 wide decks so that he could have deck space to step out of the cab on to. He didn't like it when I told him he wasn't too bright.

"OD permits cost money and the boss isn't going to pay more money to haul legal width machines on an overwidth deck just because you don't have the foresight to bring a step ladder out to the truck."

You talking about this kind of apple butter….?

Ignore the mess, had a terrible rain and flood that got water in our basement so we bunched everything together….

So neighbor Bill took it to a new level. Been sitting on this a few weeks. We are firing up now to sell tomorrow. To be clear I'm only a assistant.

I could not agree more! I've done some pretty foolish things along the way, but that sure as hell wasn't one of them.

I’ve seen step decks in the road rolling that looked like the frame would break at the next pot hole, right in front of the front axle….

Not sure the origins, but there's still some churches here that have apple butter cooks in the fall. Probably a lot fewer than there used to be though. I'm sure a jar of apple butter was a real treat during tougher times. The only allure for me is that dad and grandma loved it. After dad lost his parents, he would talk about missing the hams that his grandmother used to hang in the attic. Probably not because he actually liked them as much as missing the people. I find myself missing stuff like that now too that everyone is gone.

Rhubarb is another that seems to be favored more by the older generations. Usually the only time I see it mainstream is rhubarb and strawberry pie, which is done poorly most of the time imo. I just planted some roots today because I was missing having a raw mouth and the acid washed throat feeling from overindulging.

Apple butter was the very first product that JM Smucker produced and sold from Orville Ohio.
