As the title says, what’s a fair wage to pay a driver for a 8 axle setup.

4 axle truck, 3 axle trailer with a booster.

    Hourly ?

    CPM?

Doesn’t really matter what way you want to break it down. For the operator you need for that kind of gear it’s going to be lots. @RustyRod is on the right page, the kind of driver you need is probably going to be looking for % to start with anyway. Not just any driver will do. That’s a risky position to hire for, and those guys know what they’re worth.

Totally different skill set on a setup like you have. Weight distribution, chaining, permits, clearances and turning radius just to name a few. % is good. Hourly is ok. No matter what is offered, get it in writing.

    CAXPT Thanks this.

    Is it local or OTR?
In northern California most guys running a three axle rig with a cozad are getting 35 an hour, time and half after 8 a day or 40 a week then double time after twelve in a day or 60 in a week.
This is for local, non union work home every night.

That's pretty close to what I see. Good ones are hard to find. I'll re-phrase that, good ones are darn near impossible to find. If they're a good hand they're usually plushed in somewhere that knows what they have and treats them accordingly.
You can't afford the bad ones either. They'll break you up in business.

Only guy I know that does heavy haul oversize , gets 20% of the gross to the truck, after they take out permits and pilot cars.
I think that’s on the low side but it is a company that hires and trains drivers with new CDLs and no experience .
