I spend 8 + hours a day (almost literally) chained to a desk. I am pretty sure that someone is going to come along with a study to prove that we are all going to get thrombosis at some point in time.
(repeats over and over to herself "at least I have a job") -
i had a pulmonary embolisim last year and the docs told me it was from sitting for a long time
-
If we are bouncing in the air on really bad roads, does that count?
1nonly Thanks this. -
dont worry, I'm sure another study will come out soon that says sitting for long periods is great for your health, all these studies are is a waste of time and money, they all contradict each other.
The Challenger and Double L Thank this. -
This study is so true guys and gals became a diabetic and high blood pressure while being a driver at 32 years old and 175 lbs. You gotta eat healthy while driving on the road. Cut back on the sugar products and coffee and chips. I was getting proper excercise when i was loading and unloading and while parked and at home. this driving for extended periods of time will in fact do your body much harm.
Weatherbug, Baack and Double L Thank this. -
Another problem of sitting too long is the potential of death by a blood clot. Yes it has happen. If I remember correctly an NBC reporter died when a blood clot reached his brain and cut off the blood supply. The max I can go is 4 hours before my kidneys and rearend tell me to move.

when i got the pulmonary embolism thats what it is a blood clot that originates in your leg and goes to your lungs (40% fatality rate) but it can go to your heart and kill you or your brain and give you a stroke or death
-
Blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are causing by sitting for too long. Anyone with risk factors can acquire a clot in as little as four hours.
It used to be thought that air travel was the only risk, but its since been shown that there is more to it than that.
Risk factors - obesity, smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle, contraceptive pill.
There's one heck of a lot of truckers that carry risk factors. Well, maybe not the contraceptive pill, but all the rest!
Taking aspirin is NOT a solution, at the end of the day you need to treat the causes not the symptoms.1nonly, Weatherbug, Wiseguywireless and 2 others Thank this. -
Might I point out that alcohol thins the blood. :smt077
