How'd he roll it the wrong way? Shouldn't the roof of the cab be towards the rocks and not the road?
okiedokie, homeskillet, Boondock and 2 others Thank this. -
My guess based off of the debris field is that he started Jack knifeing to the left of the trailer (or just drifted that way), panicked and cut the steers hard to the right, then spun around to the right. The guard rail stopped the trailer from going over and the truck rebounded off the mountain.
It would be interesting to see more photos.mjd4277, homeskillet, Boondock and 4 others Thank this. -
Any Amish in that area? They'll clean up that lumber in 20 minutes and have a barn built tomorrow.
4mer trucker, mjd4277, RocketScott and 9 others Thank this. -
Since summer rolled around I’ve been taking hwy11 it’s actually been peaceful.. all the nutcases are on hwy 17 lately plus campers . Two times I thought I was going to get rear ended at construction lights on down slopes . The light not too far from where this guy wrecked the NATT truck stopped in the wrong lane nose to nose with a oncoming 4 wheeler to avoid rear ending me because he couldn’t stop.. once opp crack down I’ll go back to 17 but it will take a few deaths first most likely.

They added another one at the bottom of the hill just west of Marathon in last couple weeks. That one makes me nervous.

I haven't found anymore pics of the crash but I just went through there yesterday and it hasn't been overwritten on my dash cam yet so I'll take you for a drive. Skip to about 1:13 for the location of the crash.
At the start of the video I've just crested a hill. From there you drop down and then right back up. At 19s you see the flashing lights and the warning of a 7% grade. At about the 40s mark you start down the grade. Notice Lake Superior ahead, the scenery through there is amazing. (The video doesn't do it justice)
At about the 1:13 mark you're looking at the guardrail the truck is on. He/she was obviously headed down the hill the same way I'm travelling. Many possibilities on how they ended up in that predicament but I'm amazed how many seem to not go a bit slower down that grade than they do. Fortunately they didn't take out someone heading the other way.
The rest of the video just shows some more of the hill and the big lake.
sevenmph, Boondock, gentleroger and 1 other person Thank this. -
New theory - he was heading towards us going too fast, went wide and was on the brakes in the curve, ran into the hill and the hill flipped him.
No idea how his freight got in front of him though. -
Come on now…..that’ll buff right out.
Boondock, tinytim and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
