well, i worked in garages where a couple of guys had an armful of ASE patches, claiming they were "certified", but didn't know thier arse from their elbow.
they had NO practical experience, only book smart from the trade/technical schools. (the schools were giving them certs testing while in school)
i had to EARN those certs with years AND proof of experience, and here we had dumb-booksmart jackwagons touting they were "certified"
i can't tell you how many screw ups they made..
unless one has practical hands on experience, being "certified" means nothing.
STOP TAKING CHEAP FREIGHT YOU IDIOTS!!!!!

We took a load out of Orlando to Tennessee for $1.42 last week. If you have good sense you are not looking at just pay per mile you are looking at monthly average. I charged enought for the load going in to Florida enough to get us out on the average that I know Freight is coming out. The load going to Florida was agreed at $3.30.

I just got a call offering me $152k line of credit, at 2% interest. Just spam, I’m sure. They better be careful, if not, they obviously don’t know who they’re dealing with. lol

It would really depend on what exactly you're talking about when you say "gearbox". A NV4500 5 speed for a 1 ton dodge can be bought remanded for around 2-3k just for an example. A RTLO22918B remanded would cost north of 6k if you buy from a quality Eaton certified shop. That same transmission new would be north of 10k dollars.
A new 10 speed Allison in a 1 ton chevy new would be close to the 10k mark as well.....but a new DT12 Detroit auto in a Freightliner would be closer to around 15k if you could even find one. Point is, you'd have to compare apples to apples in order for your analogy to work. I honestly don't think a semi is less expensive to maintain than a pickup truck or hot shot rig. Especially if you are doing your own repair and maintenance.bumper Jack, Rideandrepair and Oxbow Thank this. -
Just like all certifications it only proves you can answer book questions. The proof comes in the application. Just as new drivers are picked on, most rightfully so. You can pass tests- great. What shows up is when the real world clusterfck comes in and how you apply the learning, and gain experience.Gonzo1300, buddyd157 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
