I have not driven since last summer. Thought I might go back to long haul. Not much that is decent. I cannot handle reefer. Too much waiting ( with no pay) and night driving. Another driver told me about jobs available from one of the largest companies in Canada. He is doing mostly long haul. Almost dedicated 1000 mile run one way
Then he told me he does 13,000 miles a month. Often waiting as well. I told him that is almost impossible. Response was you have to know how to use PC. Many of the drivers at this company drive their 11 and then switch to PC for up to 2 hours. Either he is bs,ing or I am failing to understand. If true the company must know what is happening.
But regardless I am having trouble finding a decent job. I wont work for the big boys: Bison,D&R, Arnold Bros. The majority of listed jobs are for carriers owned by New Canadians. Most do not hire Canadian born drivers. Or they are a 3 truck outfit with no financial backing. As things slow down they will shut down or give you a bad cheque. I would even take a temporary job for someone that wants to take the summer off. I have had some interviews and the caliber of these small outfits is scary. Older tired trucks. An office in the basement of a house. The industry just gets worse. Too bad as trucking is an important industry.

There are still good companies, but you wont find them advertising. They have, thru word of mouth, all the applicants they need, and lots they just throw. Dig in, ask around, make some friends in the industry, you may luck out.

For what it is worth, I have been with Bison out of the Mississauga Terminal for 17 years. I did alright. I am going to retire at the end of June. I'm 70 now.

Working out of a basement office is not a bad thing - with Covid a lot of people moved offices and it works... space is space as long as you can move the frieght and have a yard ... if MPI / USDOT has no issues why would you?Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
