I'm headed west to Eugene this weekend, looking for the best route from SLC.
Option 1: 84 up through Boise to Ontario, then W on 20 across through Bend/Sisters/Santiam Junction, then 126 to Eugene. Looks awful bendy. I've done a lot of this route but not in a tractor/trailer.
Option 2. 80 to Winnemucca, 140 to Klamath Falls, then 97/58 through Crescent Junction.
Hauling about 30k, 53' dry van.
Or is there a better way than either of these?

Option 1 definitely.
Plenty of truck traffic. Summertime now so no problems weather wise. Usually plenty of RV’s too. They’ve been doing roadworks in the canyon out of Vale to Burns but I think they may have finished it now. Once thru Sisters, go over Santiam Pass and then take 126 to Eugene. Really nice drive. Especially this time of year.Big Road Skateboard, Flat Earth Trucker, nredfor88 and 4 others Thank this. -
Also fuel up before you get into Oregon. Or at Ontario. There is fueling in Burns and at the truck stop in Hines.
86scotty, Another Canadian driver and CAXPT Thank this. -
If I was near I-80, I would pick option 2. ALWAYS CHECK Tripcheck.com for trips in or near Oregon.krupa530, 86scotty and otterinthewater Thank this. -
Use to be, on hwy 58 just out of Oakridge there was McCredie hot springs that had wide parking and you walk in maybe 3/4 mile to the springs, with three or four different pools. Have not been there in years. Probably a homeless camp in the summer now.

I did option 1 last year. Was a fantastic drive. Roads were great along the way. Places along river on 20 to pull over a check stuff out. The ride up through sisters is great and 126 is awesome. One of the best drives I’ve ever been on.
CAXPT, Siinman, Accidental Trucker and 4 others Thank this.
