3406b valve set

    I always set the bridges too. With the valve for that bridge loose hold down on the bridge and turn the adjuster screw by hand till it touches. I always run it up and down to be sure it’s stopping in same spot. Then tighten the jam nut. Spec is touching then 1/3 of 1 flat. Which when you tighten it it will move that 1/3 so I stop at contact so to speak. Check the bridges for wear if there is a dip you can file like .006 off each one. Also check the foot on the rocker arm. They should be smooth not have a noticeable line across them. Very much wear in those places make a big difference in how they run.

    thanks wore out adjusting the briges was my next question! thanks alot , i think i have dsmn near everything needed , what shoukd i torque tge jake assembly back on to? the complete unit i mean, use lock tight anywhere?

    No on the loctite. Also the Jake has washers marked A and B put them back like they are. The B washer goes on the stud then the housing A washer on top then nut. Big nuts to 100. The 3/8 bolts to 45.

    Once you figure out your model, you can download the installation manual straight from Jacobs site.Service, Parts & Support | Jacobs Vehicle Systems Interesting is Cummins recently bought Jacobs along with Meritor. The P/Ns in the manual will cross to Cat P/N if wanting to buy tools etc. Kastar used to offer the Cat engine brake feeler gauge along with Cummins, Mack, and Detroit ones. Glad I bought them years ago because no longer offered.

    will definitely check out! , just to clarify, once i set all valves , i will in stall jakes and adj the exhaust valves that r closed, spin , pin adjust the rest?

    valve n jake set went great, had a slight tick before now quiet, thanks to everyone for the help, turnes out i have the 346b jake brakes, is there a up graded brake i can put on this? iv herd of a set that hold real well and r very loud, but that was sumthin i read awhile back now, mabe it was a dream? lol

    PacBrake. They work way better than a Jake. Enough so that Jacobs licenced it and sold it as the Super Jake. Even a 3406B will dig in almost like a Cummins with a PacBrake on them. A Jake on a 3406 made some noise but did you about as much good as shoving your hat out the window.
