They’re different brakes but you can switch an engine from one to the other with no problems. It’s a little more work than to just a re-re a Jake head, the hardware all has to be changed too, but it’s not a biggie.

The 349A is the super Jake has a taller Jake riser between the rocker box and valve cover. It is also a pain to rebuild sometimes the housings are scored to the point you better know a good machinist real well to get it fixed. Also very hard to find.

The PAC-36 is the next best alternative and what I run. It fits under the standard risers and as said a minor hardware change and your good to go.

Never thought of availability, but i guess it would have put a cramp in that whole program when they went IVA on the C15’s. I haven’t had a minutes trouble with the 2 P36’s I have. They’ve both had a few kits into them at this point but no trouble beyond that. My ‘89 and ‘91 were both ordered with Brakesaver engines, I had the PacBrakes installed when they came in. Those two go forever on a set of brake linings. Nearly twice the mileage of the C15’s that only have compression brakes.

I agree my 36’s are the way to go in my opinion. I do wish at times I had a brake saver with it. I would use it more than the Jake I think

They are sure nice coming into towns where Jake noise is frowned upon!

One of the biggest advantages I’ve learned with Brakesavers is pulling a couple of pounds application on them if when the truck starts wiping it’s feet in a bad spot. I’ve avoided a lot of shifts that probably would have ended badly doing that.

not sure if im second guessing myself here! the tag on the jake head itself said c346b, so i adjusted jakes to 346 b spec, noticed in picture on the outside of rocker housing says model c346? would these be 346c ones then meaning im .010 tho to tight?

Tag on the housing is what matters. That C is in front of all of them. Same riser on all of them except the 349A. With so many models close to same it is easy to go wrong lol
