I currently work as a fuel hauler and have been in the business for over 4 years now. My company now offers an O/O program. This has got me thinking. If me, my day guy, and potentially two others got together, we could easily put enough money together to purchase a nice rig, obliterating the finance aspect of the equation. Through S-Corp-ing the business our salaries and K-1 distribution could all be equally distributed among us. Fuel hauling is a 24/7 gig (for now anyways FJB). The main trick would be getting all (potentially) 4 people on board and in a line on the collective. This allows the truck to run everyday, every weekend, every night, with a rotating schedule for us,12 hour, 48 hr shift weeks, splitting cost 4 ways, especially the Hazmat insurance, and creating massive amounts of down time for everyone. Has anyone ever heard or attempted such a thing? What are my team fuel haulers clearing on avg.? Is a rotating 4 day work week a potential reality or is this pie in the sky nonsense? Thanks!

start the business yourself . finance the truck, hire the 3 other guys as your employees. put them on the shift of your desire.. still probably wont work.. but atleast there wont be as many arguments about money and ownership and who the boss is.

What I've learned it that having a truck run 24 hours a day does nothing but kill it.

Might be possible, but very difficult I'd imagine. Four owners, one truck? So what if Owner A wants lots of chicken lights and chrome, but Owner C wants a bare bones Freightliner Cascadia? Or the engine needs a rebuild and Owner B and C wants a cheap aftermarket, shadetree mechanic to do it, but owner A and D wanna go to Detroit and have it done with genuine parts and factory trained techs?

Four guys owning one truck? What happens when it goes in for scheduled maintenance and one driver, or two, miss their shift because of it? Does the driver whose shift was cancelled for shop time get paid? If so what will the other drivers say about him sitting home on full wages.? Will there be someone else at the carrier to cover your loads?
As to the money...tanker rates in my area are pretty good but I don't see where they'd be good enough to support four drivers one one truck.
Our fuel tankers have always run 24/7 because the contract specifies it. And yes, they wear out fast on 24/7 but the revenue will make up for it. There can't be any slack in the schedule and both day and night driver have to keep a good pace. You already know that.
Finally, if your company is doing well with the company trucks, why are they going O/O ? The answer to that is money...you just need to find out why. They aren't going O/O out of the kindness of their heart.Vampire, exhausted379, JoeyJunk and 5 others Thank this.
