This sort of thing happens everywhere unfortunately. :biggrin_25513: Usually you hear about docs working too many hours without proper rest. Maybe they need logbooks? :biggrin_25525:

I wonder.... if you have a foot amputated do you need to update your documents that list height? After all you're one foot less!!!!:biggrin_255:

This is why when any family member is going under the knife I always ask everyone involved in their care what procedure is to be done....and make sure they give the right answer. I have heard of people using felt pen to write on their body prior to surgery....it may sound funny but PEOPLE do make mistakes.

I have also heard of people using big black magic marker, and putting something like "not this one" on their good limb.

When my daughter had surgery on her leg the surgeon came in and signed the leg he was going to work on. Then he had us sign a form stating which leg.

On a separate note years ago in the army I went to the dentist. I had a tooth drilled on and he could not get the band around the tooth to fill it. He said my teeth was to close together and he was going to pull it. He said I did not need it anyway. Joker pulls the tooth and then starts putting this band around it and starts tightening the band. I start mumbling I thought you pulled the tooth. Idiot pulled the one behind it to give him more room. Why in the heck did he just not pull the tooth he drilled on???:biggrin_25516:

The Joint Commission mandates that O.R. personnel have a "time out" once

a patient is wheeled in to the O.R., and everyone is supposed to stop what

they are doing while someone reads off the patient name, age, and specific

    surgery to be performed.

It's called, Universal Protocol for Preventing Wrong Site, Wrong Procedure,

    and Wrong Person Surgery.™

I would suggest that the patient should sue, but he probably doesn't have a leg to stand on.
