I had a couple of them back in the day, When I was starting out in this Business. They did a good Job without Too Many Dramas..!!
I'll do you a favour & take them off your Hands, save you all the angst they cause...LOLFeedman, OLDSKOOLERnWV, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
3208 is a good choice for a medium duty rig. At like 210hp they don’t have enough ### to drag 80k very efficiently.
haycarter, Feedman, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 2 others Thank this. -
Thats very true. And 444 Cummins had a bad soot in the oil problem.
Pick your headache, they all have them.Feedman Thanks this. -
The 444 sure has a love and hate feeling about it. One of my uncle's had a 444 in a 87 379, other had a 444 in a 88 FLD 120. The one in Pete ran well and could hear the distinct timing changes with the STC injector, one in Freightliner they were always messing with overhead and STC system to make it run right. Both of them went a million before overhaul.
jamespmack, Feedman, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 3 others Thank this. -
I’ve got an old V330 in the yard. The Hobbs on it gave up at 22,000hrs about ten years ago. Won’t start without diesel dristan when it’s cold, but it runs fine once it’s warmed up. I’m pretty sure a pump and nozzles, and a couple of starters is all I’ve done to it since ‘97. Hydraulics have had a lot more work than the engine.Feedman, Oxbow, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 1 other person Thank this.

Good friend had a twin screw Louisville with a 3208 / 13 speed, it was in awesome condition overall! I was trying to figure a way to save it, but I guess it’s new life will be an electric car from China….jamespmack and Feedman Thank this. -
Somewhere I have pictures to prove you wrong on the oil leaking part.
Many do leak, but not all, really depends on who put it together…..jamespmack Thanks this. -
I was thinking the same thing lol….haycarter and jamespmack Thank this. -
This thing screams every week, still not slobbering and showing signs of the monster oil slinger nightmare you hear many talk about. The oil pan lip is dry as a bone too, very minimal oil seepage in spots. Owner said it is one of the most dependable machines they have, along with the older
Cat loaders they own….
elliott, jamespmack and Feedman Thank this.
