What would be a sensible routine driving OTR? I'm not talking about local or regional, but long haul dry vans and refer, flat bed if it applies. Do you run hard or smart or maybe both? I know someone who insists that this is the way to make miles.
He gets up around 3:30 am. Goes to the bathroom, does his post-trip and then hauls ###. No breakfast or coffee and doesn't have anything to eat until he stops around 4 or 5 at night. He stops at loves only, no other truck stops like a mom and pop with a nice sit down restaurant... it's fast food only and roller dogs.
Has two pairs of clothes with him, doesn't do laundry and showers, maybe once a week if that, and yes he stinks really really bad. When I run, I like breakfast. And it doesn't have to be first thing, but at least withing the first 2 hours after running down the road. I have enough clothes for 2 weeks, maybe more. I shower at least every other day and my favorite parking areas are ones that are off the beaten path with a decent restaurant. I do my grocery shopping and try to prepare most of my meals in the truck, crockpot, microwave and frying pan.
I don't have any problems getting good miles doing it this way and less stressful. I also try to do some mind of exercises and stretches.
How do you run? Being time efficient and working smarter.

Quit chasing miles. Chase revenue. I made the switch seven years ago and I will never go back to chasing miles. I’ll run local for hourly pay first. Good luck.

All depends, some people can get up at 330 every morning and not eat anything all day and then have "food" that evening. If I wake up much before 7 for more than a couple days I get a little irate, doesn't matter how long I slept either. I don't generally eat breakfast on the road either but like to stop and have a decent meal, either steak or chicken, at least once a day, ive been known to go out of my way a few miles for a good steak. Unfortunately all the decent places with real food are getting fewer and farther between.

Its just personal preference. I dont like waking up at 3:30 ... But i normally plan everything with traffic in mind . I like partials if they are worth it , my ideal miles is 700-900 , i can reload every day no problem ( some people can do 2-3 loads locally daily , some loves cross country ) ...i run hard , but i never spend more than 5-6 days in a truck , most of the weekend home . Food ?? Lol - lost 20 lbs in last 2 weeks watching my diet ...just wanted to be lighter ...no coffee or pops for me

U can run hard like that but for what? U just get burned out. A lack of good food takes a toll on not only your physical health but mentally. Especially when ur away from home along time. clean clothes and clean bedding. Smelling nice after a shower. Its the little things that keep me sane and feeling like a normal person. That guy obviously has a dispatcher cracking the whip. god forbid you should have a nice meal or want to do some things a normal person should do.

I don't eat breakfast, because it takes me hours of being awake before I'm hungry. Always been like that. Don't drink coffee unless I'm pulling a 34, because I need to be stationary. It....does things to me. Ideally, I try to be on the road around 10 pm. Much more peaceful at night. Mom and pops for sleep and diesel, mega stops for showers.

I’d rather do it your way than his. I see a lot of Drivers in a big hurry. All stressed out for no reason. What’s the point? Day in and day out. Does he get anymore work accomplished than you? I doubt it.

Lots more miles if he showers only once every 2 weeks.
