Alright guys, i missed yesterday post but, i'll tell ya about yesterday and today. Yesterday we went over a few homework test, and watched some slides and videos. Next we learned some functions about the brake chambers, and did some trouble shooting scenario's. Thats was pretty much it. Today on the other hand was much different, we started our log practice. We also met Vern today the safety guy from the NJ terminal as well (thats a funny dude). Vern explained to us a few thing that were changing with some regulations for 2010. He also showed us a few films of accidents and why they happened. After all that it was almost lunch, so Vern gave us the keys to a few trucks and we bobtailed around the yard for a half hour. We then took lunch for an hour, and when we came back we bobtailed a little bit more. Next Vern got us all together and showed us how to drop the airbags and lift the trailer with the bags and lock the kingpin to the fifth wheel. Thats was pretty cool. Then we hooked some fully loaded trailers(boy can you tell the difference!!) and practice some straight line backing between two trailers. The day ended with some log homework. I hope im doing a descent job explaining my training to you guys. I cant remember everything so if you guys have any questions just ask.

    JustSonny Thanks this.

Good to meet you, S2B!! :biggrin_25523:

I judged yesterday as a good day because I didn't hit any other trailers or say anything stupid. Vern and Tim are still discussing our trip up north (possibly to Michigan) for Friday and Saturday but it's not for certain quite yet. I hear it's supposed to snow like nobody's business Friday night!! Tell you something else also, the more time I spend meeting other employees from W/S, the more I think I'm going to like working for this company. They don't treat you like trash just because you're new, ya know??

Today, we're supposed to drive down some interstates and through some cities (like Hickory) so it looks like we're about to begin separating the men from the boys. Noodler mentioned that we had a pretty difficult homework assignment for the practice log book. It covered two days driving with three drop/hooks with the fictional driver making around 10-11 hours driving each day. I figured I'd be doing a pretty decent job to make 1150 miles in two days. The exercise took my room-mate and I about an hour to complete it all. We'll see if it's correct in a couple of hours, I guess. I kinda hate doing logs in ball point pen though. Can't erase mistakes!!

Later y'all, wish me and Noodler luck today.

Hey S2B, thanks for the tour of your truck this afternoon. Nice set-up.

Met some more really nice folks over there at the Conover terminal today. And I didn't run over any old ladies or baby strollers today so I guess Tim and Vern decided to keep me for at least one more day. hehehe

Actually, Tim helped me quite a lot with my shifting. We ran all over Hickory, Newton, Conover, etc. today. And tonight's log book homework was just as difficult as last nights, although I think I'm better at doing them now. It's quite a lot different than how they taught us in school, ain't it Noodler??

Also ran into my buddy Tim P. from the NC Truck Driver Training this afternoon. He seems to have fit in fairly well at W/S for only working here a couple of weeks now. He had run up to Oklahoma City and back for his first solo run. He was wore out, but quite happy to be making the $$$ now, ya know??
