You’re right, running in those places are 100 times easier and you should get to run 16 hours a day.

"Schmitt Jr. filed the request on the grounds that the mandatory 10 hours off-duty break does not fit with his natural sleep patterns of five to seven hours a night."

Great! So at least we know that he will be completely rested by having a 10 hour break. He should stop his belly aching.

Well, to no ones surprise, I'm sure, the request has been denied.

I’ve been saying this since forever. HOS “force” drivers to drive when their log says they can, regardless if they need rest or not . A much better strategy would be to drive when you feel rested, and rest when you get tired.

While you are correct, it’s not enforced. It’s easy to pull a driver over and do a quick check of his logs, it takes a lot more effort to go to a place of business and dig though their files. I don’t think anybody is checked unless there is a serious accident that brings forth extra scrutiny.

A much better strategy would be to make the HOS a guideline and not a LAW.

We have 100% compliance, let me drive/sleep as I see fit.

Basically, that driver admitted to violating HOS rules for 30 years by filing his request.

Funny how they didn't bother to mention anything about his safety record. Has he repeatedly been cited or placed OOS for HOS violations, or has he ever been in a crash where CMV driver fatigue was listed as a contributing factor?

If not, then I see no reason why he shouldn't be granted the exception.

    Blue jeans Thanks this.
