Hello I have been speaking to several companies the past few days since I received my CLP. In the initial interviews with the "gate keepers" I have compiled a list of questions that I ask such as pay etc. What are some quesitons I should ask on the interview besides what the pay rate is and what the benefits are? Do companies pay hourly for sitting and waiting for loads, fueling, and weather? I asked this question a few times and I either got a no or IDK answer. Any help is greatly appreciated.
What questions to ask on a job interview

It's ok to ask a few questions, but don't turn it into an interrogation of the recruiter.

I prefer when a prospect has a lot of questions, as I know a couple things up front: One, he's serious about applying, and two, if he fills out an application, I know he thinks he'll be a good fit with us and will likely stick with us for a long time.
Those that only ask a couple questions generally are a bit more shaky in their fit. -
Do trucks have built-in refrigerator
Who decides when and where to fuel
Lookup the company CSA score (enter DOT number into FMCSA web site) SAFER Web - Company Snapshot compare company score to the industry averages.
When does detention pay start (x hours after appointment time, at appointment time, is there a cap, do all customers pay detention)
What are layover pay details
What are breakdown pay details
Will my time off be just the 34 hour reset.
How much do health benefits cost for your situation.
Do you have driver-facing cameras
Do your trucks have the automatic braking/collision mitigation system -
The more questions you ask a recruiter??????
…The more answers you get told he knows you want to hear….
Wanna get those inside questions you need to know before stepping on with a company?
Track down about six drivers and them. Compile and average their responses. You’ll be close.
recruiter is a paid liar and advocate for the company.
Sorry if that’s offensive, but it’s true. There are a few truly honest recruiters out there, but they are far and few between, they get paid and are hired to bring you on board. -

Find a company. Research it. Ask the questions. Then ask any drivers you may see from that company when you run into them on the road. If the driver's response matches the recruiting office and the website, its legit. Most drivers, when caught off-guard, will be pretty blunt about the pros and cons of their company.Rollr4872 Thanks this. -
Most important question for me is "Where are the freight lanes?"
If the lanes are local or regional, then that ends the interview.
If the lanes aren't coast-to-coast & border-to-border, then I'm not interested.
CPM isn't important to me, but accessorial pays are; detention pay, layover pay, etc.
As far as where I can fuel the truck; I don't care, it's not my truck.Last edited: Jun 27, 2022
