Tri axle Freightliner cascadia

    Hi
    I’m currently looking a truck to buy, and today I came across to a Freightliner cascadia that has tri axle, also it’s 455 hp, I mostly pull regular 53 dry van trailer, so I don’t need tri axle,
    My question is,
    Is there any negative things about tri axle? Probably I won’t use it, This truck has 8X4 drive line,
    Any recommendations? is it bad thing to have pusher axle if I don’t use it

    If you are not going to use/need the pusher axle yhen you are just hauling the extra weight.

    You can remove it, maybe make some money selling it.

    If you decide to use it, do you think I can do oversize with maybe step deck, heavier than 80K,
    So this truck has 455hp and 3:55 ratio 10 speed Eaton transmission,
    I’ve been driving for 2 years but only dry van, I wanna pull flatbed oversized loads also. At least I’ll try and see.
    What do you think this is gonna be enough power for that kind of work.

    What’s the rest of the axles? Really no point buying a heavy spec truck if you aren’t loading 110,000+ every day

    Looks like an ex-Heartland truck that they use in the PNW and is set up to run 105k gross weight. Short answer is yes you can do what you’re wanting with pulling a regular dry van. But the axle and wheels will add about 1200 or so pounds to your truck, so keep that in mind if you plan to haul weight sensitive loads. You can pull the axle off and tie all the air lines up inside your frame rails if you don’t plan to use it. Then if you do decide to use it later it’s fairly simple to install it again. Or you can pull it off and sell it. The gap behind your sleeper will look cool but will hurt your fuel economy.

    Basically, if I pull dry van I can’t get 44K load (I’m assuming pusher is 1.2K)
    And yeah how about if I get heavy loads with using my pusher axle, do you think this truck gonna be enough with 455hp 3.55 ratio 10 speed.
    The reason I’m asking is, I’ve never seen this kind of heavy hauler on the road, I always see peterbilts and kenworths.

    It’s lived it’s whole life up until this point running 105k gross in the Northwest. I don’t see why it couldn’t keep hauling heavy.

    Feather weight truck. If you really want it just take the axle off .

    You may could get by with about 90k but I don’t believe you’d get it to scale much more than that.
    And the drive train is not setup for heavy pulling. The gears, transmission and engine is not gonna pull much weight not happily or fast anywhere.

    That’s definitely not a spec heavy truck.
    Most heavy trucks have 18-20k steer 20k pusher and 48-52 rears.
    Here’s one of my scale tickets from an average weight load.

    It'll be a little slow up the hills. 30mph? @ 105.5k. You'll need a quad axle trailer.
