Hey all! New to the forum, not so new to driving though. I’ve been driving for a living since my first pizza job in high school, since then I’ve delivered furniture, lighting supplies, picture framing materials, wheel chair bound senior citizens, and currently running a tandem delivering landscaping materials. I’ve also thrown trash, ran a mobile shred truck, ran multiple pieces of equipment and spent the last 4 winters plowing interstates and city streets.
I finally took the plunge and got my Class A last month. Company-run training program, not a school, but passed with flying colors. They still have me running a tandem dump truck but at least I finally got that pesky manual restriction removed so I can drive the big dumps and shift all day long. Not sure if I’ll stick around where I’m at, the company is a mess and their equipment leaves lots to be desired as do their empty promises, but they didn’t make me sign a commitment for the Class A at least ( suckers…) so I have options.
I’m wondering if it’s possible to get into an OTR position with minimal tractor trailer experience that will get me home regularly (daily or even weekly, none of this two months out nonsense), that pays 60k+ and won’t break my back? I know it’s a big ask but I’m not as young as I used to be and don’t have the luxury of being able to run for months away at a time like I used to, but I love driving and want to make a decent living doing it.
Thanks in advance!

@Chinatown
I’m interested to know more about Lily. I’m seeing some info saying they have daily home schedules, but saw something else saying they only hire new grads for team positions? Do they have any regional routes that run maybe a few days out a week? Maybe I’m searching for something that doesn’t exist but I’d like to go OTR but not gone more than a week at a time, less if possible. Am I dreaming?
