    Hi all.
I am 34, been licensed since 2016. Clean record all the way around. I drove for a mega reefer carrier for about 6 months then left the industry due to the treatment i was given, pulling off of the interstate when i ran out of HOS and couldnt get any advice on what to do from their “after hours”, ( was in total gridlock with nowhere to go), and forced teaming as i just cant get any actual sleep in a moving truck! I now have learned about the HOS issue and what to do and not to do in those situations. I am on rehire status with them, but no way.
Now i am trying to get back into the industry and having a hellova time at it. I am trying to stay away from other mega carriers due to so many bad stories i have heard about them and lack of them actually caring about their drivers. I do not want to team ( other than the obvious refresher training i will most likely have to have) and have no family at home to go see. Just me and my two cats is all. I can get a friend to watch my cats for a couple of weeks while i retrain, but cant leave them for a long period of time. Thats one problem i am running into. The other problem is insurance. It seems nobody can get me on their insurance with my little bit of not recent experience.
Not bragging but i guarantee if i can get in a driving test i can drive that truck with no problems and do it safely! Albeit if its a manual truck it may be a little jerky until i get the hang of it again. Im not auto restricted and got my CDL in a 10 speed.
i am in Mississippi, again, totally clean record all the way around and am willing to live on the road for long periods of time. I just need to have my little buddies with me and need a chance to prove it. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help!

Thing is, by avoiding megas you are avoiding your best resource for learning. These companies are designed to teach drivers the legal way to do things. They have too much to loose not to.
Might want to reconsider. Not all megas are bad.
For example you hear a lot about Swift. I was there a year and while there were bad and good, there was no more or less than any other trucking company I've ever worked for.

Wow thanks for all of the quick replies y’all. I will fill out some applications! Yeah i realize my cats may present a problem for some companies, but they are all i have and i am all they have. I’m willing to pay more of a deposit if needed, i just cant leave them and cant get rid of them. Thanks again y’all!

I would do it in 2 steps:
    1.Find a temp/perm home for the 2 cats.
    2. Resume your career following the good advice given by mainly 2 TTR contributors.
Where to go in your area and who to choose to work for follow Mr. @Chinatown.
How to choose a carrier based of your skill sets, experience, personal desires follow Mr. @tscottme.
Good luck and please update the forum with your success or fail for other new drivers benefit.
