I hear of so many people who got a dot card when they went for their DOT physical, but I got mines on a 8.5x11 paper. How can I get a card vs carrying around this sheet of paper?
Does DOT allow us to carry a digital version?

This subject is covered by 391.41 (2). let's be clear though about something. I agree 100% with what @firemedic2816 just commented on. Further, it is important to remember that 391.41 (2) ONLY applies to CDL holders. IF you are operating a non-CDL CMV YOU STILL HAVE TO HAVE THE DOT CARD ON YOU! Last I heard the FMCSA and the states have no provision that adds medical information to a regular driver's license.
Don't let my comment confuse you. That last part does NOT apply if you hold a CDL.hashcreed and firemedic2816 Thank this. -
I was about to hop on here to ask the same question. This is fantastic information. I hate to hijack for a brief minute, but if I wanted a small wallet card, who would I go to?

And do you all know, because by the sound of it some don't, you have to submit the physical to your state DMV?
Either in person so they can scan it in, or online via a not so easy (at least for me) process.
It is not sent to the DMV from the doctors office, it must be done by you.
The CDL will not be valid unless the DMV has it in their system, even if you have the physical card with you. -
As time goes by I get more and more behind with how the FMCSA is regulating medicals. The system as I understand it is laid out in 383.73 (o). ALL medical examiners send the results of their physicals to the FMCSA which then makes them a part of the CDLIS system. The states are supposed to read this information directly off the CDLIS. I might be wrong, but I think some states are doing this and some are not. There is a compliance date of June 2025 for ALL states to get this information off the CDLIS directly from the FMCSA.
