So you agree. Teaching kids to hate/fear the police is the problem and if it doesn't change. Nothing will. Thanks for acknowledging that fact.

 

George floyd brought his situation on himself..fentanyl killed him as he ingested it while in the back of the patrol car..he was anything but a saint..he hid hold a gun to a pregnant woman while robbing her before..

New to this? No. I dated an officer. I also have several friends who are black that feel the same way. We've openly talked about it. They call their own people who try to play the race card "N-words" no joke. One man who is a very good friend, 67 year old black man, told me once when ain't asked his opinions on all this he said sure there are blacks who face racism but whites do as well and the blacks that throws racism out there his response to that was "There is a difference between a black man and a N-word".

 

You know, I read your post and I just think about one thing that is a glaring weakness of our country: lacking of empathy. I think that's why the country is divided on everything. People never try to understand others' points of view. It's like there is only supposed to be one way to interact with so many different people from so many different backgrounds. It's easy for a white man to say everything you just said. If people of color hadn't been treated so poorly throughout history, we may not be having this dialogue. That's the root of the problem. You know, when I read the article in the original post on this thread, there was a video about police relations with homeless people. It was at the end of the article. I was captivated by that because the Cambridge, MA police were doing their part to make themselves less of an enemy amongst the homeless. Many on the force were trying to help folks, give them resources, point them into a direction. Most of all they talked with them and listened, and protected them. They didn't come off hell bent on making arrests and shooting up people. There was a general understanding for that community and I could appreciate that. I think that if the police made themselves to he that type of presence in minority communities, perhaps we could turn the corner on some of these issues. I can tell you from experience, that police barely even show their face in those communities. You won't see them until something devastating happens. No preventive maintenance whatsoever. Let's be clear, I'm saying the young man made the best decisions because I'll be the first to tell you he did not. I also agree with you saying that you can't eradicate all that issues, but it don't mean you can't bridge the gap some. I just think if police can establish trust in those communities some of these actions would diminish.

 

While I do tend to agree on this, there is also proof, just by the numbers alone, there is systematic racism with police interactions.
Unfortunately it's on both sides so it'd hard really fault any group. Just need to be aware of it and try, on all sides, to mitigate it.
