good luck on the new company! I wouldnt work out though.

so i have a TON of applications out now, and still finding more to fill out. Some wont touch me because of my cats (obviously) but a lot of them are not willing to give me a chance due to my lack of recent experience. I should have never left the industry... i do have some prospects out that i am just waiting for the phone call on. The most promising so far seems to be Big M. The recruiter keeps telling me my cats are ok to bring.
Heres one question, when i ask any of these recruiters what the honest mileage i can expect out of them on a weekly basis, they ALL say 2500-3000. Is that a bunch of recruiter smoke or is that ok to believe from them? Im not looking to get rich, but i do have a house i will still need to pay rent on so i can just sit forever and not make anything. Any advice on getting some of them to put this in writing to cover my butt in case they are lying? I figured that when i tell them i will not be looking fo a lot of home time at all they would be happy with that since id be able to make more loads, but it doesnt seem to really phase them at all.

Reason it doesn't phase companies is because many drivers say they're not interested in home time, but then a few days on the road and they're griping about not getting home time.

Ah, well thats not me. I went home once in my 6 months with the first company i was with. I guess its one of those ill just have to show them type of things. My goal in the long run, when the economy is better and fuel is down, is to own my own truck outright and live permanently on the road. But thats way way in the future if i can just get back in the game.

Big M Transportation runs 48 states; that's a good indicator the miles will be ok.
Plus, you can take the cats.

recruiter told me they only run from the Texas/Michigan line East up to CT. Unless you are a lease operator. The pet policy is a big plus for me obviously.

yeah i am leaning towards them if for nothing else just the experience. I was definitely going to get one of those cat boxes for sure, if nothing then a simple enclosed one.

    Ok, big update.

from all of the applications i have out there, these are the two biggest things that shut me down.
1 you have enough experience, but it is too old so you have to go back to school to get on.
2 we do allow animals, cats are ok, but only one animal allowed.
Reason one even coming from companies with schools, they wont touch anyone with experience older than 3 years old without going to an “accepted” trucking school again. I have had a TON of calls and emails. Been talking to many companies and picking their brains and have decided i am going with Big M here in Mississippi. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good company. There isnt a lot of info on them at all, not even a lot of reviews. I have talked with a couple of their drivers, past and present and they say its a good starter company that will give me the miles if i want them- i do! Hopefully it will all work out. I go to orientation on the 8th. Then go with a trainer for about 6 weeks.
Thanks for the suggestions and info all, it was and is very much appreciated.
