This is where a lawyer would have served you well. Motion to dismiss, improper venue. The court in Indiana had no jurisdiction over the case because the defendant must be sued in the jurisdiction of his residence, not the plaintiff's location. But without this specific motion being filed, you lost. Had this motion been filed, the lawsuit would have been tossed.

IMO the Indiana small claim court system is corrupt to it's core. I don't know the decision rate businesses vs individuals. But I would guess it's 99.5% to .5%. You would not shock me if you told me it's 100 to zero.

 

Unfortunately that's not true. Indianapolis is in Marion County. There are nine small claims courts by township lines. In all other Indiana counties small claims are heard in civil court.
The law in Marion county states that a small claims action may be filed in a jurisdiction where neither party lives nor works. Read that last statement again.
That is why Drivers Solutions is actually a separate company from the school and is headquartered in Indianapolis. They can sue anyone from any state, and they will win. The only thing that stops them is your death.
